Its a national holiday today on account of Dr. Ambedkar s birth anniversary..
Its significant to know and debunk certain myths regarding his immense contribution to socio political spheres of society..
1. Dr. Ambedkar was prima facie in framing Indian Constitution.
2. Being an innate Mahar caste (Scheduled Caste), he was denied higher education in any educational institution in India due to the rigidity of casteism..
3. He initiated caste based reservations for Dalits due to their subverted position in the varna hierarchy so that their position can be uplifted and they can get away with casteism..
4. However, Dr. Ambedkar instructed to remove caste based reservations for Scheduled Castes after 20 years of their upliftment..
5. He also debunked Gandhi s image (with due reverence to all political leaders) who used the Dalits (namely Harijans) for serving his political interests (so that Dalits could join Congress) and never worked for their empowerment.
Its time people stop scapegoating Dr. Ambedkar for the present conflict due to reservations for Dalits, for he was responsible to bring about change in the position of scheduled castes!!!
