‘Meghdoot’-When the Clouds Beckon
Supatra Sen

Monsoons are nearly midway
While the clouds play truant
Sometimes the king’s crown
Or the avenger’s dagger
The usual plot of power and want
Often the golden barren deserts
Sometimes tumbling rivulets
Amidst towering peaks
Moving, changing
Gathering only to dismantle…
Conjuring images
Weaving tales
Of dreams…and droplets

Once you enclasp
Roaring, thundering
Never to let go
The wild obsessive lover
Soon an azure fantasy robe
Of a long imprisoned princess
Studded with the twinkling precious
As those of an urban hub
Viewed from afar

With you
Unending stories
Endless conversations
But return I must
To what I’m bound

My path for escape
Remains
Higher than all duties
Deeper than all wounds
Loftier than all commands
Where my spirit soars
Above and beyond
Unfettered…unchained…
