After quite sometime, Prajapati Daksha arranged a Yagna in his royal Palace. All the Gods and Goddesses were cordially invited but Lord Shiva. But Sati expressed her intense desire to visit her father. Sati didnot pay any heed to anyone’s advice. She went to the palace of her father Daksha and questioned him on his injustice meted out to her Lord. It has always been stated in every holy scripture that no Yagna would be possible in the absence of Shiva! Daksha became furious. He reprimanded his daughter as well as Lord Shiva. He refused to pay homage to the Lord. Sati, the incarnation of Adi Shakti could not put up with the harsh words of her father. She decided to sacrifice her life. The serpentine power was awakened by her to unfold her third eye. Fire emerged and the supreme tale of her sacrifice was written! Everyone was taken aback by this whole act at Daksha’s Palace. It was really unfortunate that Prajapati couldn’t recognise his daughter nor even tried to pay reverence to her. Daksha’s pride as well as ignorance was completely responsible for the impending destruction.
The dismal tidings reached Mahadeva. Mahadev’s rage promised to destroy Daksha and his Incorrigible pride! Virbhadra was born off Mahadev’s matted hair. The Goddess Bhadrakali was also there to avenge the Lord’s insult and Sati’s sacrifice. Virbhadra reached Daksha’s Palace. A terrible fight was ensued between Virbhadra and Prajapati. Finally Daksha was beheaded and with this his arrogance was slaughtered into pieces!
Shiva reached Daksha’s Palace. His eyes welled up. His heart was torn apart by this rudest shock of life. Sati, his spouse was no more there on this earth. Shiva became all alone in this world. He took her lifeless body on his broad shoulders. Dissolution knocked at the door. The cosmic dance of Shiva seemed to destroy the entire creation. Beholding this ravaging act, Indra and other Gods went to Vaikuntha. They met Lord Vishnu and prayed before him to protect the whole creation. Vishnu assured the Gods. His divine discus split Sati’s lifeless corporeal into fifty one parts. According to mythology, the locations were Sati’s body part had fallen is known as Shakti Peeth. The temple of either Durga or Kali was built up. A new history was created. A new episode was framed. Infact the poor mortals awaited the blessings of the Mother Goddess!!
